Indications of Xirom 0.07% 5 ml Ophthalmic Solution

Bromfenac is used to treat postoperative inflammation and relieve ocular discomfort in individuals who have had cataract surgery.

Pharmacology of Xirom 0.07% 5 ml Ophthalmic Solution

Bromfenac is an anti-inflammatory medication that is not a steroid (NSAID). Its anti-inflammatory effect is considered to be related to its ability to inhibit cyclooxygenase 1 and 2 and hence prevent prostaglandin production. Prostaglandins have been demonstrated to be mediators of various types of intraocular inflammation in a variety of animal models. Prostaglandins have been demonstrated in animal experiments to cause disruption of the blood-aqueous humor barrier, as well as vasodilation, increased vascular permeability, leukocytosis, and increased intraocular pressure.

Dosage & Administration of Xirom 0.07% 5 ml Ophthalmic Solution

Adults: 1 drop to the problem eye 2 times a day; treatment should start 24 hours after surgery and should continue for 2 weeks

Children: Use and dose must be determined by the doctor.

Pediatric Use: Safety and efficacy in pediatric patients below the age of 18 have not been established yet.

Contraindications

Bromfenac ophthalmic solution is not recommended for those who have a known hypersensitivity to any of the formulation's components.

Side Effects of Xirom 0.07% 5 ml Ophthalmic Solution

Abnormal feeling in the eye, conjunctival hyperemia, eye irritation (including burning/stinging), eye discomfort, eye pruritus, eye redness, headache, and iritis are the most often reported adverse effects following the use of Bromfenac after cataract surgery. These occurrences were reported by 2–7% of patients.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy Classification C. Only if the possible benefit outweighs the danger to the fetus should this medication be taken during pregnancy. When administering Bromfenac ophthalmic solution to a nursing mother, use caution.

Precautions & Warnings

All topical NSAIDs have the potential to impede or postpone healing. Topical corticosteroids have a reputation for slowing or delaying healing. The use of topical NSAIDs and topical steroids at the same time may raise the risk of healing issues. Bromfenac ophthalmic solution should be used with caution in individuals who have a history of bleeding or who are taking other medicines that may increase bleeding time. While using contact lenses, bromfenac ophthalmic solution should not be used.

In certain sensitive persons, Bromfenac ophthalmic solution includes Sodium Sulfite, a chemical that can induce allergic-type responses such as anaphylactic symptoms and life-threatening or less severe asthmatic episodes. In the general population, the frequency of sulfite sensitivity is unclear, however it is most likely low. As a result, caution should be exercised when treating people who have previously shown sensitivity to these medicines.

Storage Conditions

Keep out of children's reach. Store away from heat and direct light in a cool, dry area. After opening, do not use it for more than 4 weeks.
